The Problem Is…
(18/10/1970)
The problem is
I have
He has not.
And why should that be,
Am I better than he?
Not a bit
(in the average case),
It's fortune
And lack of it,
And I don't see why.
He's no worse than I
(by and large).
So what should I do?
Give to him
What I've got?
(I have
He has not).
Would that solve the case,
Put a smile on his face?
Makes you think….
If I gave him the lot
Would he have
And me not?
But I don't think that that could be done.
But supposing it could,
Then I'd like to know if I would.
I had a salary and no dependants at this stage, and here I was seeing people who were broke. I wanted to understand. It seemed I was very fortunate. I was following an idea from a Reader's Digest at this time, saving 10% of my money and giving 10% away. But it seemed hard to find out how to give responsibly, effectively. It still does!
