The Slender Thread of Love…
(About June 1971)
The slender thread of love has come between us,
Floating a gossamer line within our reach.
Don't rush. The slender thread is soft and gentle
And we must search our feelings each to each.
But hear me when I whisper low,
Afraid that you might hear and go,
I love you.
I see your face and hear your thoughts unspoken,
Please know my mind and everything I do.
I know the urgent feeling that I want you,
And tremble that you might not want me too.
But will you stay here when I cry
Beneath the night and grey-wind sky
I love you?
By drifting, slow, deliberate steps I draw you,
Your warmth and mine must mingle side by side.
And gathered breath I hold lest I might lose you
And watch you slip by with my dreaming tide.
