Psychopath 2
(18/10/1970)
Where the hell do you send him on a night like this?
You look snug-footed from the step
To the space above the lamplight.
White,
It comes, soft-coating down.
"Goodnight, take care"
(He'll be alright)
Steps down out there
(Behind it's bright)
Bum. One, two, three,
Hand on wall
Palming his way along the street.
And in the hall
It's warm.
Down bending, remember as you squeezed it to a ball
To throw at someone, sudden shock, recall?
"It's colder than I thought!"
And when you tell him
Not to drink (remember God)
He mumbles from the Tweed he got (but where?)
He makes you think.
It's all he has to keep the weather out
(Soft-coating down)
National Assistance bought and down the spout.
His Tweed (from where) part warms the cringing flesh,
Harbours his bottle,
Harbours his soul.
And will the rushing silence pierce the mesh?
Try it yourself.
Snugfooted your fall,
"Goodnight, take care"
(He'll be alright)
Hand-palming there,
He's gone!
