My Birthday

In the early hours of another day
I lie awake.
The tide must be in - there's sea-water in my eyes.
I've read the letters bringing greetings across the miles
And the cards on my birthday.
Being far from home's not easy,
And some times are harder than others.
So much of what I love I seldom see
And no matter how exciting life can be
And often is
There's something missing.
Something that makes me fill up on my birthday
When people who love me think of me.
