One
I know you're happy,
'Cos you never answered my letter.
Two
I write letters to people because
They're important to me
Or
I have some business with them
Or
Because I need to communicate with a friend.
And in any case
It hurts not to get a reply,
But in the last case
It's hard to understand why.
Three
I could write you a letter
And throw it away
And maybe that would be better
'Cos then I wouldn't need to excuse your friendship for not replying.

If you loved me you'd answer my letter,
But then if I loved you maybe I'd not write
Five
I wish everyone I've written to
Had written to me first
To give me the privilege of replying
And saying I loved them.
Six
I needed to write you a letter.
Most of all I needed you to answer it.
