Jackstones – a girl's game, played with a marble, and knuckle bones of a sheep (SB)
Jackanapes – an impertinent fellow (SB)
Jambles – the iron gearing which fits into a horse-collar to draw with (SB)
Jannock – a thick cake of oatmeal.
Jannock – straightforward ‘His clooas dunno matter if he’s jannock every time’

Jawms – the sides of a window, a fire-place, or other building arrangement (SB)
Jenny – a cottage spinning machine of 50 spindles once common in Saddleworth
Jert – to jerk: to throw a stone by jerking (SB)
Jib – the chin ‘Stick thi’ jib eaut’
Jiffy – Quickly ‘In a jiffy’
Jiggered – weary, tired out
Jill – half a pint (SB)
Jilliver – a termagant: "Hoo's a jilliver;" also Gillyflower, called "spice jillivers." (SB)
Jimp, neat, tidy (SB)
Jingle – a tinkle; a merry sound (SB)
Jingumbobs – trifles, playthings (SB)
Jobberknowl – a dunce (SB)
Jone – a man's name, John (SB)
Joysty – come to (obs.) (SB)
Joyst – a summer's grass, (obs.) (SB)
Jow – ‘I’ll jow thi yed’
Jowting – jolting
Jubberty – an accident of any kind
Jumbo – a place near Middleton (SB)
Jump or Jimp – a coat, a garment: a Sunday jump, a Sunday coat (SB)
Junkit – a small cake: a crackling (SB)
Junkittin – visiting, gadding, gossiping (SB)
