For Val In Seattle
(Spokane, 27/9/1971)
I had a cosmopolitan weekend
And discovered that my friend
Loves a guy of another Race
With a slightly darker face.
I wondered what her mother would say
If she wasn't five thousand miles away.
I met him with my friend.
We went to a party across town
With beautiful people there
That I'd better set down:
Two Italians, as friendly as you'd meet two guys.
Two Egyptian princesses with dark laughing eyes.
Two Norwegians, full of jokes, good conversation and dancing.
A girl from Finland looking for adventure,
And one from Sweden, whose accent was entrancing.
I fell in love with the women there and then,
And thought the guys were fine and friendly men.
So, it began not to matter
What the mother of my friend
Would say or think.
I had a cosmopolitan, beautiful, weekend.
Val had been a friend of Liz's at university, and I learned that she was in Seattle. We got in touch, which resulted in my visiting her and enjoying a fine party.
