The stories on this site revolve around the Dunkerley family that originally came from Oldham and Manchester, the Tuson family from Penwortham (near Preston) and Hollinwood, and also the Leopoldino family (my wife's family) that is from Minas Gerais and Goiania in Brazil.
The site also covers the Martin family of Mossley and Failsworth, and the Sykes family of Diggle in Saddleworth and Woodhouses. The Lancashire Dialect Area is now a major part of the site and the most-visited area. It has a substantial Glossary, a discussion of how the dialect evolved, over sixty dialect poems and some sketches to illustrate the form and structure of how the language was spoken. Please click on links in left margin or on underlined words to enter the different areas. The Site Map lists all the pages available. The site has accounts of the lives of the various members of my families, set in the context and against the events of the times in which they lived. I have based my research on a wide range of information sources, many of which are quoted to make the stories as authentic as possible. There are numerous photos and some maps.
