About This Site: I started to be interested in Family History when I found myself organizing the papers and other records that used to belong to my father after he died in 1996. Although I had talked to him about his family, and even made some notes, I realized then that I should have asked him so much more. My over-riding recommendation to anyone is, ask your parents and any other family members of their generation to tell you all they can remember about their families, look at photos together, and make notes! | | Get involved in Family History. There is so much information appearing on the internet, both of a kind useful for research and also listings of information about individual people, that much in Family History can now be done from home. But get involved and help! I carry out voluntary transcribing of the UK Civil Registration Index under the FreeBMD project. This aims to make available, free, the whole of the births, marriages and deaths index from its start in September 1837 until recent times. So far most of it is done up to the mid-1920s. Volunteeers are always welcome. As of 19th July 2008 my tally of entries contributed to FreeBMD is over 90,000. I set up my first website in November 2006. |
